http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NetworkDecay^^ Great website. Guaranteed to take hours of your life away.
So, what TV network that you used to like has now been rendered unwatchable after it started to deviate from its purpose or lose its quality?
Of coarse the most infamous one is MTV, but I never really watched it anyway, aside from the awesome Spike and Mike Cartoons and videos from bands I liked, but that was almost a decade ago.
Nickelodeon- I think almost everyone can agree with me on this one. I admit I was quite saddened when they practically eradicated SNICK from existence, even going as far as giving away that orange couch in a contest, and replacing it with that awful (and thankfully now defunct) TEENick. I now only watch it around Thanksgiving time, when they actually dare to show that they remember their glory years and its older viewers by showing the good nicktoons in marathons, complete with the old bumpers. Oh, and what is with that stupid, horribly CGI animated show with the talking, hermaphrodite bull/cow? I mean really,
WHAT THE HELL!? History Channel- You know, I actually enjoyed this channel when they had Nazi documentaries on 24/7. At least those were FAR more interesting than what they have now. What is so historical/ educational/ entertaining about driving trucks through snow? It was also real creepy last year when they had a sick obsession with “end of the world” shows. The only thing I bother watching is
The Universe, which also seems to have a requirement to mention the world (and even the whole universe itself) ending in almost every episode, but even then it gets a little boring after a while.
G4- At my other home, around 2005 or ’06, I was so excited when I got this channel on my TV through basic cable, meaning I didn’t have to go to my cousin’s place to watch it on his through satellite, but with my wonderful luck, I saw this channel practically deteriorate before my eyes once I got it. It came to the point when I would only watch a few seconds of it if only I wanted to get an instant brain lobotomy. Since I don’t have it up here where I live now, I don’t even want to know how bad it has gotten over the last 2 and a half years. I consider that a good thing.
Cartoon Network- CN seems to get worse every year, as they’re becoming more and more dependant on live action to get ratings. What’s worse is that they’re showing live action movies that were
not intended for kids in the first place and are completely butchered up as a result.
Disney Channel- Though I haven’t watched a single frame of this channel since I was 9, I already know that if I were that age now and saw a single episode of
Hannah Montana or the other crap shows they have, I’d instantly drive my foot through the TV screen. That or my head, depending on how many brain cells have been fried from watching it.
But of course, this is why the Flying Spaghetti Monster invented books; though those have been a little lacking as well (The
Twilight books anyone?). The only shows I watch now is
CSI (all of them),
Law and Order (all of them too) and day time talk shows (especially the
Maury Show, when he has on those annoying whores trying to find out who their ugly baby’s daddy is.).
So, what network has decayed the most for you, and why?

Fox. I’m not eight and they don’t show Digimon seasons 1 or 2 during Saturday mornings anymore. I don’t watch tv otherwise, unless it’s for American football (and only then because it’s something to do. Not that I don’t like it, but I’m not all that up with it either).

G4 is the same as its always been. 4 shows in rotation all day, every day.
I can't say I've ever been devoted to a network... But I certainly agree about Cartoon Network and Nickelodean. Cartoons just aren't what they used to be, especially the garbage that's on Adult Swim.

I miss TechTV and how it used to be, ever since the merger with G4 it just went downhill. In anycase, CN isn't too bad, but it's not like I watch it 24/7.
In anycase, I'm gonna have to agree with DB on Fox, but I guess that's just Fox in general (come on they cancelled Firefly). the only use I have for Fox is the new Terminator series, and American Football.

I think I have to just agree with everything that's been said already.
G4 - What's the "G4" stand for, again? Gadgets, games, girls, and something else? In any case, I hardly see any of these on these days. TechTV and G4 back in the day had at least a few decent shows on now and then, now with pretty much just X-Play left. (I'm not a big X-Play fan, either.) Oh, and Attack of the Show!, which is a bit cheesy at times, but it's nice to have. Other than that, what does G4 play? Cops "2.0," Unbeatable Banzuke... Oh, wait, that's pretty much it. At least until later in the day, when they finally play an episode or two of X-Play, and AotS!. (And yes, I know I'm exaggerating. After looking through entire days of programming, though, it's not far off.)
Cartoon Network - This part gets a text size reduction. It's too long. I doubt anybody will read it anyway.
Mhm. Camp Lazlo, My Gym Partner's A Monkey, and those two go in rotation pretty much all day, with another senseless show or two thrown in the loop. However, there are still a few decent toons left on there, thankfully. Courage, the Cowardly Dog is still amusing for reasons beyond me. Similarly, there's actually a newer show, Chowder, which is pretty decent, IMO. I still don't really go out of my way to watch the daytime toons, though. CN's missing a whole lot of decent toons from back in the day, and the roster's been replaced with pretty dumb stuff. Also, yes, they seem to be focusing on stuff lately that isn't even animated. (Playing School of Rock? What the hell is up with that?) They're gradually becoming the current Disney, which I pray doesn't actually happen.
Later in the afternoon/evening, Toonami's got some dumb crap as well. Ben 10? Y'know, maybe I just don't give this show a chance, but it seems like just a pathetic attempt to mimic anime, to me. Toonami used to even specifically play anime, didn't it? That's how I remember it. Naruto's the only decent show I find on it anymore, but thanks to the fact that it's shown on Toonami, it's been rather toned down. (Lee's "Loopy Fist?" Goddamnit. They even edit out the redness in his face, despite how obvious it is that he's drunk. Nevermind changing sake to "elixir.") Toonami was still playing DBZ for a while (which, while I'm not a big fan of it, at least it was something they used to play), and I've seen One Piece, Prince of Tennis, and MÄR on in the past, though they've all been replaced by Ben 10 and some other dumb stuff.
Adult Swim is my main attraction to CN these days, though I don't even watch much on there. Saturday nights, I catch Bleach and Code Geass, at the moment. Death Note's getting a re-run now. Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex occasionally get re-runs, which are always welcome. One show I'm not glad to see re-runs of still would be Inuyasha. Let's ignore the fact that it's been played (in full length?) so many times by now... It's on pretty much every other night of the week, so don't waste time slots on Saturday night, please. Also on the Saturday note, the earlier portion of the night (up until midnight) is stuff like Family Guy, which just doesn't fit into the "ACTN" line-up that Saturdays are meant to have. I like Family Guy, but it's another show that's on pretty much every night, and gets new episodes the following night anyway. Shin Chan is a weird, but somewhat amusing show, but once again, don't play it on Saturday nights with the anime line-up. In short, considering Saturdays are meant to pretty much be anime night, only about half of the schedule is actually filled with anime, with the rest of the shows just being used as filler.
Now, still on the Adult Swim note, but off the anime topic... I like ATHF, and I occasionally enjoy Metalocalypse. Venture Bros. is still a great show, if you ask me. I may be forgetting a few titles. However, there are a few other shows that are straight-up retarded. *cough*Tim and Eric*cough* It's like Adult Swim is intentionally aiming their shows at stoners or something. Hell, even a lot of stoners probably can't find any humor in some of these shows. They're just plain dumb. (Of course, this is just my opinion. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would agree with me, though.)
In general, Adult Swim's goal seems to be to piss people off these days, really. Quite seriously.
Obviously I have a lot to complain about with Cartoon Network. ^^;
There are others, but after that CN rant, I don't feel like typing much more. There are still a few good shows out there, but it's becoming a chore to actually find them. OnDemand channels are nice to have, though from what I've seen, they don't offer much more.
Hey, TV: Want people to stop pirating shows/movies? Get some better schedules, then. Maybe we'll consider actually watching TV more, then. Maybe.

My boyfriend is a Stoner and actually laughs at Squidbillies and Tim and Eric. I laugh because he laughs at it and has a goofy laugh, but thats fine. I actually think ASSY MCGEE and 12ozMouse are the WORST shows on there, and I love Home Movies and Mission Hill.
Dont get me started on the rest of CN though. Tom and Jerry and Courage are the only shows I will really watch on that channel anymore. I enjoy Ben Ten sometimes but yeah. By the same peeps who did the Teen Titans stuff.
I wish they would bring back the old cartoons.. 2 stupid dogs, Josie and the pussycats, SWAT CATS, omg. >>;
Also, Disney sucks. Eversince they got rid of Boy meets world D: but I do watch Life with Derek

Yeah, there are some decent shows on CN and AS, but mostly the kind I watch to kill time. However, I admire the ingenious concept behind Ben 10, since it’s a show about a kid who turns into 10 different characters, which means that kids will have to buy 11+ action figures. Now THAT is how you do a 25 minute long toy commercial.
And about G4, I’m not surprised. Are they still doing that horrid “Whip Set” block?
Just as DB said, I agree about Fox. I have no point in watching that since all their shows are retarded as Hell and any decent ones get the ax after the first episode.
Now, this is not a specific network per say, but I feel really bad for today’s kids since they’ll never know the utter fun that was Saturday morning cartoons. The ones they do have now on Fox and WB are jokes and kids can just watch as many cartoons as they want on cable channels, but still....
Another channel that is steadily going downhill is VH1. After they pretty much ran out of material to milk the “I Love The...” shows, they’re now relying on pulling out those terrible reality shows out of their asses. The very same can be said about the E! Network.

Oh my gosh, I LOVED 2 STUPID DOGS!!!!!!!! That has to be the funniest "dumb" humor cartoon I've ever seen... maybe I should "pirate" the episodes because they are too funny

Josie and the pussycats should die like the rest of the Scooby Doo spin-offs did.
SWAT CATS was another AWESOME show, but didn't watch it as much.
I don't currently have TV in my apartment, and I would only watch it when my wife is bored of reading or the Cowboys are on. I strongly resonate with the fact that most of network TV sucks the big one. THANK GOODNESS 24 will be coming on in January and more Prison Break will be there or I would have no hope for TV ever.
Also, my wife and I have made a strong resolution to NEVER let our kids watch crap TV. Solution?? Block those channels on DTV (when we can afford it...) and buy the DVD's of the "good shows" and let the kids watch them. Ah, to watch Ducktales and Talespin will my heart's desire. Vie la vida!!! (and, let them watch good anime's like Trigun

)

Nah man, Ed, Edd & Eddy. Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, AHH! Real Monsters.
And I miss the old anime blocks on CN. I don't actually watch TV anymore, but if they brought the anime block back, I would.
It's where I first saw FLCL <3

I'm pretty sure they still play Ed, Edd, and Eddy occasionally... Billy & Mandy, too. Not sure when, but I'm pretty certain they're still on now and then. Though maybe not... I know the EE&E finale was aired not too long ago.
Ahh! Real Monsters was on Nick, by the way. Don't think it was ever on CN.

They had a finale?
I didn't even know it had a plot line X_X
And I know Ahh! was aired on Nick, I was just to lazy to type it being from a different network.

Yeah, Two Stupid Dogs was epic. I love Adult Swim but you are right most of their cartoons are aimed at stoner or habitual drug users. I hate some shows on their, I don't know WHO they could be funny too. -CoughTimandEricAssMcGeeATHFisohkayFatGuyStuckInTheInternetSeaLab2021ShinChan- But hey what do you expect for late night cartoons right?
P.S. TechTV was awesome.

Honestly, I think people are just too partial to sticking to their own generations. Of course you enjoy something you grew up with more than what it is now. You were a kid. That is why box sets and downloads of old cartoons exist for all older generations to enjoy. <3
Back in my day it was Lizzie McGuire [Which I never enjoyed, but I had friends that watched it], and now that Whatsherface is too old to star in a children's Tv show, and probably signing deals with Playboy, they dragged another kid out of the Mickey Mouse Club to take over. Hannah Montana just happens to be it.
Basically, if you don't like shows, don't watch them. Just remember the good ol' days. It's not anyones fault that our generation had a better sense of humor, and more creative ideas. xD
And people complained too much about the massive quantities of Anime that Adult Swim showed, so they replaced it with gheyer shows like that one about the talking buttcheeks, and the one with the pictures of two men sorely animated. I Only liked when they showed Mission Hill. [Which they're doing more often now it seems =o ]
Old shows on Nick and CN were good, but you can't expect them to air forever. That's why they just do marathons every once in a while. =o

Yeah, Adult Swim doesn't seem too fond of airing anime, though they do it anyway. Apparently, retarded stoner shows get more viewers than anime. =\
