The Last Battle

Back Round Story

Anthony Tar'Von gazed out of the window of his room in the highest tower of Castle Arthine. He repressed a shudder at the sight of thousands of torches rushing up the street and to the main gate. He had heard rumors that an army was on its way to Fathe. But he had never believed them until now. Lord Lomath of Tare had always been trying to kill the Queen of Arthine for years through assassinations, to gain the power of Fathe and set himself as King. But always flaunted, he got frustrated and threw his might against the walls of Fathe. The outer wall had fallen to an onslaught of catapults in every direction. Lancers rushed and crushed the remaining defences. He turned his back to the window as the huge metal gate was smashed aside and the lights surged into the Castle Grounds. He walked over to the large chest sitting at the end of his four poster bed. His mother was in danger, and Prince Tar'Von was not about to let them kill her.

He pulled out a long, gleaming sword with the Arthine crest upon the handle, a cross overlaying a willow. He belted the sword and sheath onto his leather belt. He pulled out a hard leather chest and chain shirt. He slipped out of his red coat and pulled on the chain shirt over top of his white shirt. A few seconds later, he examined himself in a mirror leaning against the wall. His long blond hair fell to the shoulders. His hard leather armor encased a short sleeved chain shirt. His flowing red, silk pants were tucked into mid-calf boots and a sheath adorned with the Arthine crest extended behind his right waist. He pulled the last bit of armor out of the chest, a gleaming kite shield with the crest on the front. He strapped that to his left arm and ran to his door as he heard sounds of fighting echoing up the tower. He wrenched open the oak door and started his descent down the winding stairs. A few moments later, he threw himself through the door at the end of the stairs and stopped dead. The wide hall was filled with men fighting. The Castle Guards of Arthine and Lomoth's men fighting each other.

Anthony drew his sword and threw himself forward. He dodged through the individual fights, trying to get clear of the fighting so that he may get to his mothers room. A man jumped in front of him. His sword gleaming red. His metal chest plate was dented and scraped and his helmet justly so. He stepped forward and launched and arching swing at Anthony's neck. The latter barely raised his shield in time to the sword to smash into the metal with a jarring clang. The man wound up and swung again, this time at Anthony's ribs. He jumped to the side just in time as the sword smashed into the ground. Anthony took the quick moment to dispatch the enemy with a hack to the throat, slicing the mans neck. The opposition dropped his sword and fell, face down to the stone floor, gurgling blood. Anthony jumped over the corpse and ran on, killing any enemy who blocked his path. He broke clear of the fighting and ran up a stair case leading to the third floor, where his mother's chambers was. He found the long hallway void of fighting. It had already passed. Bodies lay jumbled on the floor, lying in pools of their own blood and those surrounding them. Anthony did not take time to check whose bodies they were. He raced along the hall, not caring who he stepped on. at the end of the hall was a set of double doors. The doors lay hanging on their hinges, half splintered. Anthony hesitated for only a moment before blasting into the room.

The greeting room showed signs of fighting as well. Couches were torn, pictures on the floor. And several bodies adorning the normal decorations. A sinking feeling grasped Anthony, but he forced it away and ran through a door on the left, leading to his mother's private chambers. He quickly surveyed the room, or, what was left of it. He did not sheath his sword as he searched the dead. His mother was not among them. He walked around the bed and stopped. His eyes tracked to the center of the huge four poster bed. His mother's was resting calmly on the pillows, with blankets up to her neck. He quickly sheathed his sword and wrenched the covers off. He gasped and choked on tears at what befell his sight. His mother's body held a single gaping would in the middle of her chest. The blankets and sheets were heavy with blood. He quickly covered her back up and kneeled on the floor, vowing to get back at Lord Lomath, no matter what it took.

Many days later, after Anthony rallied the Arthine army and pushed Lomoth's men out of Fathe, and they set about cleaning and rebuilding, Anthony was appointed King of Arhthine. He ordered the entire army be mustered and sent his request for new recruits... The Last Battle was on approach, and many strong soldiers would be needed...

Guide Lines

Please try to keep your IC time in sync with everyone else's, if at all possible. I hate it when one person is in a heated battle at midnight and another person decides to take a nap and rushes to the next day. As such, please be conscious of what's going on around you, and try not to mess up the flow of the story.

Types of Elementalists:(subject to change.)
Fire
Earth
Air
Water

Blade Master- These men are like Foot Soldiers, but way more skilled in the long sword. They wear light armor and use long swords and rarely use their shields. There are usually only a few in an armies ranks.

Knight- These guys are the armies best. They usually wear heavy armor and use anywhere from lances to swords. They are also mostly found riding horses into battle. There are very few of these soldiers compared to the rest.

Fencer- A fencer is a person who wears light armor and usually wields a rapier a knife or other bludgeon weapons. They specialize in quick fighting, jabs, slashed, ect.

Foot Soldier- These men are the ones who go into the fight first. They wear medium armor and carry swords and shields. Very rarely do they ride horses. There are normally vast numbers of these.

Assassin- Assassins do the peoples dirty work and very rarely are considered soldiers. They use a whole array of weapons. Daggers, throwing knives, short swords, anything to get the job done. People usually don't take kindly to the presence of an assassin.

Ranger- A ranger is good at both the sword and bow. But not a master at either. Normally carrying a long sword and a long bow, these men are mostly clad in light armor.

Elementalists:
Air- Air Elementalists can manipulate the air in almost anyway. Whether hardening it into a weapon, thickening it into a shield, and other things. But the more they do and the bigger of a manipulation, the more tired they will be after. If they try to manipulate more than their abilities, they die.

Earth- Earth Elementalists can manipulate basically any kinds of rock or earth. Sand, dirt, stone, ect. The same rule applies with Earth Elementalists and all other kinds of Elementalists, if they manipulate more than their abilities, they die.

Water- Water Elementalists can manipulate water in many different ways. As a shield, hardening it into a weapon, and almost anything else.

Fire- Fire Elementalists can manipulate fire to do their bidding. Their fire cannot harm them in any way. They could produce a flame sword and hold it without it hurting them at all.

*Note- two elementalists can combine their powers to do other spectacular things. Earth and Fire can combine to make small meteors for example. Use your imagination!

Rogue- A rouge is some one who is usually rather sneaky. They very rarely wear armor and use small weapons such as a light crossbow, throwing knives and maybe a short sword.

Thief- Thieves are basically self explanatory. They use short swords and throwing knives. They can easily pick a lock on almost anything. They are also pretty stealthy.

Spear man- A spear man is the front lines of an armies defense. Carrying long pole arms, they try to push back an enemies attack. The wear medium armor.

Scout- A scout wears no armor and is fast with long endurance. They normally only wear small weapons such as daggers or short swords so nothing gets in their way.

If you have any questions about the classes, just ask. Oh, and no God Modding if you please. For example, a wizard cannot summon a meteor and crash it into the midst of an army and kill them all. Everyone has limitations.

Also, please keep the equipment rather simple. Looks etc. can be anything that you desire, but do not make it so that you sword can rent a man in half effortlessly or anything else of that sort.

(Edit)Also, please beware that we will be traveling, a lot, so if you would like a horse already included with you, you may put it on your sheet, if not, you will have to buy one.

If anyone reads this and does not like it for some reason or another, I would like some feedback on how to improve it please.

*Note- Looting is permitted, any items that an enemy owns when it dies is free game.

*posting interest* I shall have a bio up later.

question: is this basicly going to be a fighting rp or is there a goal in mind?
Seluna
Just checking with you, Unforgiven One, is the passage in the first post the background for this roleplay or is it an actual IC post?
Unforgiven One
It's basically the back round post which sets it up for how some people can join into the RP later on when it actually starts. And it is most likely going to have a lot of fighting but there is an ultimate goal ahead.
Seluna
Huh, I'll take it as general background information then. If this is the case, this roleplay will require three approve profiles (creator's not included) before it can be moved to the main where the IC can start. Just so you know. ^^
Unforgiven One
I know. I read all of the rules. But thx wink.gif

Unforgiven One
Ok, only one mistake, your sword. I would not necessarily call it a mistake, but it is a little overboard. We start out with simple weapons, being only soldiers. Later on, we get better gear, but not yet. Other than that, it is good. Change the sword and your approved.
Lady Alora
done and done
Unforgiven One
Thank you. Approved.

Only one more and then I can start the IC! Woot!

By the way! Make sure you check the Back Round post when you get on this RP. On the bottom of it, it will tell you if I modified it as of late. If I have, make sure you know what is different. (It will never be the story line) That way you can bend to it as you will. This is to make the game as best as it can, keep current!
Lady Alora
Come on people! We only need one more to get started!

If anyone reads this and does not like it for some reason or another, I would like some feedback on how to improve it please.

You start many of your sentences with the same word and these sentences follw each other up. His... His... His... etc. Though you do a little paragraphing it's quite hard to read as it still looks like a wall 'o text. Very simple way to put an end to this is instead of doing the following.

Paragraph 1
Paragraph 2

You use an empty line to split your paragraphs.

Paragraph 1

Paragraph 2

I think you didn't do this so you could keep the story seperate from the other parts, but it remains an annoying wall. What you could do is centering the title of each part of the text and make it bold and/or larger.

Another thing is that there's no seperate part describing the world, nor a description of the classes and I can merely assume it's a freestyle writing RP. You haven't filled out a template for this Anthony guy either, which I, also merely assume, you'll be playing.

Sorry to be spittin' fire at'cha, believe it or not it's merely trying to help out. If you could do something with the above, I'm sure it would attract that last candidate with much more ease, perhaphs I'll throw in an application myself.

EDIT: Oh sorry, didn't see the second post ;p
Unforgiven One
Yeah. If you read above. I already set up a template for my guy. Anthony is only an npc. And thank you for the advice. I'll see to it.
Kestrel
Much better, the whole thing is easier to read and the class descriptions give people an idea what exactly they're signing up for.

Name:
Felicien Achille Beauvais

Gender:
Male

Age
24

Height/Weight:
1.9 metre, 85 kilogrammes (I'm Dutch I work with the metric system, sue me)
Physical Appearance:
A well-built young man, his long face is often decorated with a charismatic smile. Felicien has a tanned skin, dark-blondish hair in the form of wavy coupe and a goatee. His wardrobe exists out of many darkred and darkblue colours often combined with a white collar, tall boots and worn over his equipment described below.

Now with poor sketch; Click!

Organization
None, read biography.

Occupation
None, read biography.

Equipment
Chainmail with metal plates on arms and legs to act as shields.
Leather gloves.
Helm with metal plates overlapping each other, think 'samurai' with a more western design.

Rapier, guard is made out of a rings covered with metal plates, a knucklebow with few spikes on it's outer ring is included.
A sturdy knightsword, more fitted for situations in which he is faced with multiple opponents.
A variety of hidden knives.
Small amounts of liquid poison.

Personality:
If there's one cliché sentence to describe this man, it's be "Dance like a butterfly and sting like a bee.", his graceful yet dangerous movements in battle pair up well with his personality. He's a man that talks optimistically, but restraint by etiquettes. Felicien might sound passionate, raise his voice and talk somewhat like a character out of a Shakespear, be acknowledged that it may or may not be an act. In reality he is cool-headed and overthinking, but little people recognise this and are fooled by his sweet-talk.

Felicien also is known to have one of the classic traits of a nobleman's; a high-horse-attitude. This man looks down on commoners and ordinary soldiers and is severely frustrated that he was incorporated as one of these soldiers rather than a higher ranked officer.

Biography:
Felicien Achille Beauvais, son of a lord in a foreign country. Taught in retorica, politics, literature, etiquettes, multiple languages, military, dueling and few basics of the manipulation of water. The expectations of him had always been high, being the talented man he is and Felicien met most of these, albeit not effortlessly.

Felicien was raised in prosperity, but had several interests in the outside world and as he came of age, he became more tempted to sneak out of the family's castle. God knows how many, uncanny, romances this young man has had. However it came to a point where his father decided his son had to put an end to his escapades and lend his services to a king. When the nobleman heard a neighbouring country was preparing for battle, he sent his son and several soldiers to aid the country's new king. In the back of his head, the hope that this offer would help him to expand his own power.

Upon meeting Anthony, he accepted the aid, however he placed Felicien among the soldiers rather than in a commanding rank. Reason being his unfamiliarity with the Beauvais family. Felicien accepted against his will, he had the intention of meeting his father's expectations and would try to gradually climb in ranks during the war.

Class:
Elementalist(water)/Fencer

Hope I didn't go overboard too much with his equipment and skills, if the noble blood isn't a good excuse, let me know.
Lady Alora
I edited my bio so that it includes a horse.
Talietzin
This is interesting! I'm going to experiment with my new character archetype. biggrin.gif

Name: Juan Martinez Eduardo

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Height/Weight: 1.8 metres / 80 kilogrammes

Physical Appearance:
A handsome, tanned young man, with long (for a male) black hair parted above his his right eye, with a mustache and beard that are not too thick. Possesses an intense expression and almost eternally bears a mischievous hint of a smile, coupled with thick eyebrows. Wears a white cotton shirt, black trousers, black leather boots, a red vest, black cape, and black leather gloves. Also dons a black ceramic mask covering his eyes, tied around the back of his head and topped off with a black hat. Also has a very masculine, confident voice, known to enchant even the most beautiful of women. (Imagine, say, Johnny Depp from the movie Don Juan DeMarco. Something like that. A touch of Zorro too.)

Organization:
His nation

Occupation:
Travelling nobleman

Equipment:
Rapier (Of simple design. Blade with a simple round handguard around the handle)
Damascus steel sabre (a gift from the people of a kingdom in the desert, made out of Damascus steel)
Ring with family seal (proof of his status)
Horse

Personality:
Juan enjoys the company of people - especially women. His charm, grace and flamboyance combine with his curiosity, his penchant for mischief and his cynical outlook on certain things to make him a unique character, very different from the nobles who hold their heads high above the rest of society.

He is a seeker of beauty, who sees past the pretenses and the superficial, to the person within. He is able to laugh at himself and his flaws, because he genuinely finds it worthy of laughing at. This endears him to many women, all of whom he sees as beautiful in their own way.

He has a strong sense of justice, and believes firmly in doing what is right, not what is commonly accepted. He also appreciates the lower end of society's ladder, mixing with commoners in bars without revealing his identity as 'Don Juan' of the Eduardo Family. He likes to get to know everyone, and is open to communication of any sort. He makes enemies as a result of his many escapades, but he makes it a point not to keep them.

Biography:
Born Juan Martinez Eduardo into a family of noblemen, he was raised with strong values drilled into his head from a young age. His father personally trained him in the art of armed and unarmed combat, and his mother, against social norms, educated him in many things from etiquette, science and theology to philosophy and the development of his character.

He grew to become a charming young man, who unconsciously charmed the women around him. From within him emanated a certain energy that made people feel positive. His subtle flamboyance - however contradictory it seemed - never failed to ensure that the world knew when he was present, whether on the field of battle or in a social setting.

Upon receiving news during a break from his travels that another nation with whom they had diplomatic relations - though not very close in terms of ties and proximity - was in trouble, he immediately asked of his ruler to be allowed to do both countries a service. When told that soldiers would be sent with him, he firmly insisted that he did not want escorts. If there were any who were to follow, they had to be female. The king laughed in good humour, and sent Juan to Arthine, reminding him jokingly to refrain from removing his trousers except when in the toilet.

With that, he set off to Arthine, where he would seek an audience with the King of Arthine, to offer his assistance.

Class: Fencer
Unforgiven One
Ok. Talietzen and Kestrel. Both approved. And now, we can be moved into the main forum and I will start the IC as soon as possible.
Kestrel
Quick note to Talietzin, our characters have quite a few similiarities. Both are noblemen, both from foreign countries, both use a rapier, both have the tendency to smile, both sound optimistic and convincing, both have a specific interest in women, etc.

There are few differences in personality, but I do not want to have our characters being too simliar, which at the moment, judging from the bio wouldn't be the case. Your thoughts?
Orpheus
Name: Vincent Rodder

Gender: Male

Age: 19

Height/Weight: 6'2"

Physical Appearance: Black hair and silver eyes, women usaully refer to him as the tall, dark, and handsome stranger. Muscular and skinny, as well as fast and sly. Other then his silver eyes the only thing that stands out is a tattoo on the back of his right hand, a dagger with a crescent moon under it.

Organization: None.

Occupation: Assassin.

Equipment:

Armor: He wears light chain mail armor, under a black pants and a tunic. Has a wrist blade that pops out when needed, but when not needed it acts as a protective glove for his right hand.

Weapons: Has two daggers, a wrist blade attached to right arm, a bow, and various throwing weapons.

Personality: Goofy and fun loving, many would call him a fool. And that is how he acts, until he fights. He turns into a cold and calculating person, absent of emotion.

Biography: Born and raised within an order of assassins, soon he was given the honor of being a independent assassin. Soon after that it turned to #####, he was hired for a simple assassination. He followed his target, got close in the street way and stabbed him with a dagger. The dagger broke on contact, the man turned around and smiled. He was a Night agent, or an assassin hunter. Vincent was fourteen years old at the time, he was put in jail for life. Until he escaped at age seventeen. He's been traveling and getting jobs ever since, trying to find out who sold him out.

Class: Assassin/Air elementalist.
Talietzin
Ah, yes, I do realise that our characters are very similar. However, the fundamental difference lies in Juan's lack of pure arrogance, and his deep respect for each and every man. He does not mind not being addressed as a noble - in fact, he likes being seen as a man on equal levels to nobles and commoners alike. He may sometimes do the same things as Felicien, but behind it is a different philosophy altogether.

Juan would not take too kindly to Felicien's attitude towards the common man, and their beliefs are very likely to be completely different from each other.

It might make for an interesting clash of personalities - the flamboyant charmer and the esteemed nobleman sitting on his high horse! biggrin.gif

What's your take on it?
Kestrel
My take is mainly that, if faced with an identical issue, not concerning ranks, I find it hard to see how Juan and Felicien would act differently. Likewise, I'm pondering about the generic battle style, both of them have two different kinds of swords for the same reason. Juan has a horse and Felicien has acces to some water manipulation and poison, but these are minor elements. Both will be fighting near identically sooner or later.

Maybe it's a bit of exxagarated reaction and I should see how it denvelops in the IC thread, but we might want to keep this in the back of our heads.
Lady Alora
I'll be working on a post this morning. Sorry for the wait. I'm normally in on the a.m.'s central time US.
Unforgiven One
They are pretty similar. But that is your guys' choice if you wish to change them or not. And, I think it's a little late now, but I don't know how to consider a man with a rapier a 'Blade Master' But if somehow you see your way into the category, well, I would like to know it. I know I didn't really leave much room for a person with a Rapier, but I would put them in the category of, well, now that I check my list, I don't really have a place for them. So, I guess you can keep them there. I was just wondering why do you consider them a 'Blade Masters'?

Ah, alright. That is stretching a little I guess. But I'm not gonna hassle about it. I just think that the Rapier wouldn't be much of a blade master's sword. But Don't worry about it.
Orpheus
Am I in?
Lady Alora
i have posted smile.gif
Talietzin
Hmm, I suppose with regard to battle style it could get a little too similar. Perhaps we can just see how it goes first?

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of Zorro for Juan. Vigorous, flamboyant movements, as is his nature. I got the impression that Felicien was less of that and more of graceful, fluid and strong.

Still, I think it's too early to tell.
Kestrel
Unforgiven one, if it really troubles you, you can add the class 'fencer', assuming talietzin is fine with that also.

Orpheus, I am not the GM and I won't pretend to be, but w/o bio I don't think you're accepted.

Lady Alora, there's a symbol indicating new posts in a topic, no need to post it here also.

Talietzin, we'll see how it goes. If it turns out too similiar, we'll talk again, I assume you're ok with giving this topic a rest until then.
Lady Alora
oh...my bad. Not used to this yet I suppose.
Orpheus
Edited character, has a bio now.

Yes, of course I am fine with that. And yes, I will indeed let the topic rest, until such a time when we find that they are too similar.

I'm presently waiting for the action to shift to the castle... Juan needs to make his flamboyant entrance, with everyone (with many people, at least) present! biggrin.gif

Orpheus, yes you are in, approved, just make sure that your posts are long enough to actually be considered RP Posts ok?

And about the whole fencing thing. I'm not really bothered by it. But I think that I will indeed throw in a class Fencer. I myself do not know much about fencing or what they use. If you could give me some ideas about that I will throw that into the mix.
Orpheus
Isn't fencing basically stabbing instead of slashing with a sword?
Unforgiven One
If I knew, I would tell ya. And thank you for making your post longer. I appreciate it. Just make sure I dont have to keep saying that.
Orpheus
Ya, I was sorta being lazy. :3
Kestrel
In the broadest possible sense, fencing is the art of armed combat involving cutting, stabbing, or bludgeoning weapons directly manipulated by hand.

I assume you're thinking of fencing using the foil, with those silly full-body suits and protective masks.
Unforgiven One
No worries. Just try to avoid it in the future. Id hate to have to be strict. You know...

And I will add the class 'Fencer'

Done

BY THE WAY! I'm no longer accepting Bios unless someone drops out or I am forced to removed them from the game. In which case I will post that we have an opening.
Lady Alora
I know that I should respond to Orpheus's character, but other than that.....

I have a couple of things in mind but should we go into the castle or wait around a bit?
Talietzin
Wait as you wish, but my next post is with Juan entering the castle... I fully intend to wait until the some or most of the other characters are already inside, actually, since Juan needs to see the King.
Unforgiven One
what I plan on doing is going to The Lonely Knight Bar, getting the flier about the 'Bridge Company' signing it, and possibly meet up with you guys over a drink if you decide to come into the bar. Then the next day is when we go into the castle with the rest of the volunteers.
Lady Alora
oh okay, so the tavern is within castle limits? The fliers for the bridge thing will be at the tavern then and that will require the volunteers......I think I get. I'll work on a post.
Unforgiven One
lol. no, the tavern is not inside the castle. It is in Arthine, but not the castle, it is in the city.
Lady Alora
so we are not going to the castle first? or is that to our discretion?
Unforgiven One
that one is completely up to you. I don't plan on heading up to the castle until I have to. When the volunteers must show up. I plan on going to the bar, then heading back to my room for the night. Then, the next day at noon is when the volunteers must show up in the castle Courtyard.
Lady Alora
ok, understandable....now. I think I'm just gonna have Lily drop of Azure and I'll head to the tavern.
