Just got it for the 3rd time. It really sucks too since I just got Braid yesterday and the game is actually quite great. Still on the 3 yr warranty (until December since I got it December 2005), I was glad to hear it was all going to be covered. I told the guy that I was concerned about this happening again and he said that they are considering extending the Red Ring Warranty past the 3 years (not sure if he meant in my case or in general). I was then transfered to the supervisor and he said that they were going to upgrade it to the HDMI (he made it sound that way, but I'll wait and see), plus the repair box was going to be be shipped priority (he said I should get the box tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest), and that after I get it and am happy with it to call and get some extras for all my troubles( he said that I will be able to choose from accessories and games). It really sucks that this happen again, but at least MS is not being a total bastard about compensation.

Unlike Sony. I get it. Nice one.

Anyway, it's been 3 years, why can't they fix this problem?
Nice that you're getting some compensation though. Are your save files and such still there when you get the machine back?

You ship out the system alone, but keep the controllers, cables, and HDD (which has all the saves and stuff). I'm hoping I get the new model which is supposed to ship this month that uses the new smaller and cooler CPUs and Videocards (videocards are the reason for the damn RROD). I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

That really sucks dude. You should probably sue them for the gamer's mental pain that was brought by the RROD just when you were playing a great game. Guess your surprise was like this?

But really now, I have couple of my friends here that never had that problem. They just don't download stuff and play 3-4 hours a day. Still, it doesn't mean anything cuz I heard it happens at random.
Basically, everything you lost now is time.

I was actually playing the AitD demo when it red ringed. My expression was more along the lines of "God this game sucks and now it broke the damn system."
Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't play 3-4 hours a day. I usually do most of my gaming on the weekends (sometimes at night during the week). The console I have now always sounded a bit funny (it was much louder than the one I had before). I'm glad it broke down so that I could get a better replacement (so the agent said).

Instead of replacing a red ringed system with a brand new console, MS always just repairs it or gives you a pre-owned Xbox 360. This then always brings about another day when the rings of death appear.
I have owned two Xbox 360 and only the first one Red Ringed, but I had that from day one.

Thank you sir, may i have another..
You would think they could fix this problem by now, but sadly all they seem to be able to do is extend your warranty.

Hmm, well if they want to remove the problem, why do they keep recycling the defective units? Maybe they're waiting until the warranty expires, and everyone has to go out and buy a new one?
Kaching ching $$$
Wow, brilliant plan, Microsoft.
That means that they'll almost double their sales instantly, just because of the red rings that they never actually fix. They'll reach 40 million in no time!

I assume all they are doing with the "defected" ones is gluing the CPU back onto the mobo(that's whats happens anyway. Gets so hot that the CPU pops off the mobo). There is no putting in a better heat sink, or repositioning the CPU so that it's not sitting directly under the GPU or anything like that. That'd just cost them more money

. The message I gather is "To get the benefits of a new air flow system, you must buy the elite/new production pros".

I would assume you're going to just get a new model all together. That's what I've heard from a few recent cases from people on my friends list, though I'm not sure if it's the standard for all "repairs" now, but here's hoping you get a brand new piece of hardware.
I had RROD once, but thankfully I was working at GameStop at the time which saved my ass since my manager just swapped out a new one in its place.

lol, not too long ago Durandal was telling me that Red Rings no longer happened on 360's, and that PS3's were trash because they were dying left and right. I think he got his info a little backwards there.
It's nice to see that they're doing all this stuff for you though, LM. This gives me the hope that when mine inevitably dies out, I'll get some nice perks too. Or maybe it's because this has happened to you three times, lol.

Well they lied

No HDMI, and from what I could tell it seems like the same console I had before (not 100% sure though). For some reason they sent me another power supply (which seems to have 2 prongs instead of 3), but it is still says 203 watts (175 watt power supplies guaranty you have the newer smaller and cooler chipset). I then called and asked about the free game or accessory and the damn Indian lady said they didn't have any to give out. What freaking crap. I sent customer support a pissed off letter cause I'm really freaking mad right now.
This console seems to be working, but I'm worried that it too will crash and burn and my 3 year Warranty is only valid until November.

This is why i wont buy a 360. I cant imagine what the ##### would happen if I got RoD in Nicaragua, where the ##### do i go?

Hey, you could always be in the majority and not have an issue... Or ... Minority?
I never had a problem for the year and half I owned mine and I put some good time into it.

It's the older models that have the ridiculous failure rate, and people who get RROD multiple times are usually those that unfortunately just get that older model temporarily fixed, or get another older model in it's place. Buying a new one with today's models holds a lower chance of that ever happening though.

Luckily, and I bet I will at some point now I've said this; I've never suffered the problem of the annoying red ring of death. Many of my friends have though, so I guess it's only a matter of time. I have however, suffered a few annoying random crashes whilst playing Oblivion on my 360. [Yet it plays flawlessly on PS3...] so that's basically the only annoyance I have with the 360.
I guess I have a newer model then. Bought it at Xmas last year.
