Dragon Brigade
They've been batting this around for a long time. And, frankly, considering how much content is within this series, there are either going to be a load of movies, or they're going to cut a lot out (which I'm sure they'd do anyway). Either way, I'm not going to judge what kind of movies these will be until they're far enough along for me to actually see footage. These could either be very good or very bad. =/

Wheel of Time Movies Planned
Fantasy novel series being adapted for the big screen.
by Brian Linder

August 13, 2008 - Universal Pictures may have a new blockbuster fantasy franchise. They've just picked up the rights to Robert Jordan's bestselling fantasy novel series, The Wheel of Time.

The studio bought the movie rights to the late author's 12-book series for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, reports Variety.

The first movie in the potential franchise, The Eye of the World, could go into active development soon.

Red Eagle Entertainment, publisher of the WoT graphic novels, are producing the films.

The Eye of the World has many different characters and is told from various perspectives, but it is primarily the coming-of-age story of  Rand al'Thor, a hero who is the latest incarnation of "The Dragon" -- a force for good destined to fight Shai'tan, the Dark One.

Although the rights to The Wheel of Time have been optioned before, most notably in 2000 when NBC planned to make an Eye of the World miniseries, it has never been successfully brought to the big or small screen.

The last novel in the series, A Memory of Light, is being completed by Brandon Sanderson from Jordan's outline and notes. It's currently set to be published in late 2009.

There's no word on when the first WoT movie might arrive.

Any thoughts?
Athrun
Jean Reno as Rand al'Thor.

My opinion? Some things should be left the way they are. They're just going to butcher the books.
