I play DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball--- and I like it.
By: Jerame Oates

I’ve made my runs, like every other prejudice PS2 owner has, mocking and beat the crap outta the Xbox. I’ve done it on this forum. I’ve done it on Ign’s forum, hell; I’ve even done it in public. I’ve developed my own personal hate campaign against the Xbox, for absolutely no reason at all, except to piss off the fanboys. And man, sometimes I do enjoy pissing them off. My tirades were personally gratifying when I looked at all those Billy goat die-hard Xbox punks in the eyes, and deliberately called Bill Gates a ‘***’ (and yes, I have call him a ‘***’ on many occasions at my local arcade, my favorite hot spot). They’ve shot me to death with insults, said I was immature, told me to leave--- and I just kept coming back. I liked it, god all mighty I liked it!

When I would bash the Xbox, in my sickly childish structure and form, I’d set up my speech in the way any student would devise a crappy term paper. I start first with the basic, and broader points, such as Xbox sucks; and work into a more specific focus, like ‘all you nerd-boys buy Billy a prostitute every night, and a new secret cure for the STDs in the morning.’ (of course, I wouldn’t have said prostitute). Lame, but affective at the least. I’d narrow down my views into a razor sharp knife, and shank them right where it hurts. Unfortunately it didn’t hurt them, because, well, you get the picture. No matter what I’d say though, it would still get them going.

Now, I guess it’s time for me to grow up, because (gasp) I’ve learned to respect the Xbox, through one of the most unlikely outlets, DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball.

A few weeks ago, I finally got tired of dissing this game. Calling DOAXBV a cash cow and a sex-selling rip-off lost its appeal. I threw it into the back of brain, where I keep all my other useless sexual thoughts, in hopes they’ll return when I need them. No surprise, Xtreme Beach Volleyball did. I rented it, along with an Xbox, so I could get some desperate gaming action--- and fell, gradually mind you, into love with it.

What I found from my experiences (no, it wasn’t reoccurring stains) was that the Xbox has a strong point for me, and that amazes me. It definitely isn’t in any of the ‘modern’ areas; I still don’t care about its built-in hard drive, the detailed graphics and gameplay in Halo, or its rivals to Sony’s defining seris, like Splinter Cell (well... in some ways, but lets not get into it) or, excuse me while I spray spit all over my monitor, that god-awful Blinx. But DOA hit me, and whether you wanna call it a genre title or not, it gives me a newfound hope in the strengths of the Xbox.

I’ve never played a game quite like DOAXVB, and from retrospect, all I can say is its fun, hands down. It’s more than just Volleyball, and reminds me, believe it or not, of a stricter clone of Animal Crossing (kill me all you want for saying that). XVB sucks, I can admit that, but it’s a sucky kinda fun. I’m not going to even tell you why its fun--- its just fun (so I’m lazy). Anyone who’s played it knows that! I didn’t, and I’m glad I do now. It’s brought me to the conclusion that the Xbox is the ‘fun’ machine. Sony’s primarily the mature system, Nintendo’s a blend of everything, and the Xbox is the ‘fun’ system. Mario Party can bite me, XVB has proven, if no other game on the Xbox will, that it can ween me onto the Xbox, and that’s good enough right there.

I purposely hated Xbox too, PS2 fanboys, as I was something of one myself. XVB may not be your idea of a sweet game, but if I can find a fun time on the Xbox, any fanboy can. I’m not breaking gaming barriers here, but dissing’s only nice when you don’t have anything to compliment, any other time you’re just debating. The Xbox can survive, and it only took one small game for me to realize that. Maybe I’m an idiot, but annoying kids and workers at the arcade isn’t funny anymore, because now they all agree with me.

Long live the Xbox, damn it, I love those skimpy women!

lol!! well it just goes to show u " u cant judge a book by its cover" ( cliche) well in this case " you cant judge a conul by its cover"....i was just like you...

i was doubtful of Xbox..i absolutely didnt like it. I would make sly remarks and quibble with fanboys over it for hours talking about how it wasnt all hyped up as everyone said it was...of course that was until..i played HALO
oh god..that game was so good that it just wiped all the negative thoughts i had about XBox in my head..well actually it wasnt that i really didnt like it , it was just that i was sick of ppl saying it was so great......

DOAXBV is a good game. Like you i was hesitant at first but then i slowly came to like it...its graphics are great and the story is so-so and the gameplay is surprisingly excellent...

so all i say is
ROCK ON MAN! I love XBOX Also, and DOA xtreme beach volleyball ALSO smile.gif

LOL. Your perspective of these three consoles are completely different to mine. I see X-Box as the mature system, Nintendo as the 'fun' machine, and Sony's a blend of everything.

Anyway, I haven't played the game and I don't own an X-Box or plan to buy it anytime soon or even buy it at all. However, I did read the reviews for the game. From what I've read, this game is one of those rental games. Those games that you only buy if you have a lot money and want to blow it on something; otherwise, you don't buy it at all.

Every console has good games, and the Xbox is no exception. But DOA VolleyBall isn't one of them. Its one of those so and so games which has sold better than it deserves to because of that titilation factor.

Games like these only hold the industry back and leave it open to arguments of it being sexist. Certainly I would expect the female uptake of the console to be minute at best.

Best selling Xbox game in Japan it may be, but there are far better games on the system that deserve to be as successful, like Panzer Dragoon Orta.

Many Xbox exclusives are being ported, so right now I am not convinced it is necessary to buy one.

That pretty much sums me up except for the game being so so. Just because the game sold well doesnt mean its so so. The titilation made it sell, regardless of whether it is a good game.

I'm a female and I love DOAX. I used to be a PS2 fangirl who spouted hatred for the Xbox as well until I played some games on it, then I shut up. Now I try every system, and every game, no matter how many feminists decry all the cleavage-displays in a game.

All those people always scream that normal women aren't that huge. Well I am. And I hate when they use that excuse. Yes, the big chest gets in the way of many things (good for catching food tho') but I'm not gonna hate my body because women like that scream it's unnatural. I'm proud because it's 100% natural for me.

Getting back to DOAX, people should play the game before you diss it, you may be surprised. I'm sure for some of you it doesn't fit your tastes or you may find it repetitive, but that's not everyone, stop speaking for everyone. I like the game's upbeat music and simple nature.

I play against my friends all the time (Tina kicks major booty) and love it. I like switching their bathing suits and buying them things to make them look even cuter. I mostly enjoy spiking the ball into some little Japanese chick's face with Tina. ^^ Give me another game I can do that in and I'll give you a pat on the back and maybe a little more respect, until then stop reading reviews and try a game out or ask people you know who have played it before spewing your hatred across forums.

I'm confused as to why this is an article on the main page... But alrighty.

Honestly the game is alright and all, but it has no staying power whatsoever outside of a rental period. I played through the game quite quickly with several different characters, the only real time I spent in the game besides the easy and quick matches was buying skimpy swimwear and watching the girls prance around.

But even that is only good for a larf.

It's certainly not a game that saves the X-Box either. O_o;
